Hello, dear readers.
If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve felt it, too. That rising pressure in the air. The noise that comes not just from the headlines, but from the glances, the muttered words, the silences where there should be kindness. The world feels heavier, louder, sharper than it did before. And for many of us who are different—whether in how we love, how we look, or simply how we are—it’s not just noise. It’s fear.
I see it everywhere these days. In the eyes of the cashier who can’t quite summon the happy demeanor they’re supposed to wear like a uniform. In the hesitant smiles exchanged between strangers who wonder if they’re allies or adversaries. In my own reflection when I think, Will it ever get better?
If you feel this fear, know this: you are not alone. Not in this, and not in your strength to face it.
Fear Is Real, but So Is Courage
Let’s not pretend the fear isn’t there. Bullying, hate, and ignorance are on the rise, and they thrive on making us feel small and isolated. But here’s the truth the noise doesn’t want us to realize: fear may be contagious, but so is courage.
Every time we show up—as our full, authentic selves—we chip away at that fear. We inspire others to do the same. You might not see it immediately, but your existence, your resilience, and your refusal to fade into the background create ripples that travel further than you know.
The Silent Warriors Around Us
I think about that cashier again. Their shoulders sagging under the weight of a bad day—or maybe a bad year. I wonder if they feel like they’re fighting a battle they can’t win. But here’s the thing: every small act of defiance against that weight—every genuine smile, every kind word, every moment they stay true to themselves—is a victory.
You, me, that cashier—we’re all part of a vast, invisible network of people who refuse to let the noise define us. And when one of us falls, there’s always someone ready to help lift us back up.
We’ve Been Here Before—and We’ve Risen
History is full of moments like this—moments when the noise gets louder, when it feels like progress is slipping away. But if there’s one lesson we can draw from those who came before us, it’s that resilience is stronger than repression.
The LGBTQ+ community, people of color, immigrants, neurodivergent individuals—every marginalized group has faced moments when the world seemed to close in. And yet, here we are. Still standing. Still fighting. Still loving.
This time is no different. The noise may be deafening now, but it will fade. What will remain is the love and solidarity we build together.
The Strength of Empathy
Empathy is a quiet revolution. It doesn’t scream or shout; it listens, understands, and connects. When we see the pain in another person’s eyes and let it move us to act—with kindness, with advocacy, with love—we become part of something bigger than ourselves.
Let empathy guide you. It’s a radical act in a world that often asks us to turn away. It’s the foundation of every meaningful change that has ever happened.
A Pebble Against the Mountain
I know what it feels like to be a pebble against a mountain. To wonder if anything we do can truly make a difference. But I’ve also learned that pebbles can roll, and when they do, they inspire others to move with them.
Sometimes that means physically moving—finding a place where you feel safer, freer to be yourself. Other times, it means standing your ground, letting the mountain know you won’t be crushed. Both choices are valid. Both are brave.
You Are Not Alone
To everyone reading this who feels the weight of the noise: you are not alone. Your fear is real, but so is your strength. You are part of a community that has weathered storms before and will weather this one, too.
Together, we can rise above the noise. We can create spaces where kindness is louder than hate, where courage is more infectious than fear. We can remind each other—and ourselves—that even in the darkest times, we are not powerless.
And in moments when the weight feels too heavy, remember that we’re building tools to help. One project I’m especially proud of is LGBTQ+GPT, an evolving assistant designed to connect our community with resources, support networks, and practical ways to make life just a bit easier.
It’s not just about finding help—it’s about amplifying the courage and love that already exist in our community. Because even the smallest act of solidarity can make the world feel a little less lonely.
Closing Thoughts: Rise With Us
If you take one thing from this, let it be this: you are never alone. Not in your fear, not in your hope, and not in your fight. Together, we are stronger than the noise.
Stay strong. Stay kind. And as always, stay you.
With love and solidarity,
Oddly Robbie
