A little robot I made
Embarking on a journey through the Metaverse, I’ve spent several years as a creator, known by my alias OddlyRobbie. In this vast digital frontier, I often find myself being a solitary creator, although I’ve collaborated with others occasionally. My preference leans towards crafting my realms independently; a choice stemming from my aversion to chaotic, loud experiences common in collaborative domains. While I’ve encountered deceitful endeavors which briefly swayed my path, I’ve returned to my solitary creation to preserve the sanctity of my artistry.
Diving into the alphabet soup of Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR) might initially seem daunting. However, the essence of these technologies unveils itself once you immerse in their realms.
A word of caution for the uninitiated: upon your first voyage into VR, set a timer for 3 to 5 minutes. After your session, take some time to rest—your brain will process the new virtual stimuli as you sleep. Gradually acclimatize to the virtual domain, heeding your body’s signals to prevent discomfort.
My digital domains are crafted as exploratory landscapes, social hubs, and educational arenas reflecting places I’ve journeyed through in reality, alongside my visions of the future. Continuously evolving, these realms flourish with each new tool, texture, and asset I acquire, embodying mostly my original creations. Although I can swiftly construct a world using pre-made assets, the uniqueness of my creations lies in the personalized touch.
The chase for hyper-realism in virtual realms is a common narrative, yet I believe the existing level of realism suffices. It’s the allure of the unexplored, the fantastical, that truly captivates.
As the virtual worlds burgeon with possibilities, so do my creations, evolving in tandem with every technological advancement. The recent unveiling of Oculus 3 by Meta introduces Mixed Reality (MR), a blend of the real and virtual, facilitating a smoother transition for newcomers to VR. It allows for simple interactions like adding a virtual picture to your real wall, or inviting a friend as an avatar into your real space.
Imagine the potential: recreating cherished environments from our past, like a grandparent’s old home, to host virtual family reunions. The ease of interaction in these virtual realms not only bridges geographical divides but does so at a fraction of the cost of traditional travel.
The Metaverse is ripe for exploration. Download Meta Horizon Worlds on your Oculus device (though I recommend the Oculus 3 for enhanced mixed reality features), and join me in this digital adventure. Search for “OddlyRobbie,” say hello, and explore my realms. If they resonate with you, feel free to share your experiences and snapshots in the virtual world.
Looking forward to meeting you in the boundless expanse of virtual worlds!
